"Thumb-Stopping" Content
Here I gathered a couple of examples of "thumb-stopping" content:
First is this Apple watch commercial that tells stories about how people's Apple watches saved their lives. This commercial is an excellent example of "thumb-stopping" content because it immediately catches the viewer's attention when you hear someone calling 911 that they're in an emergency. Then, as the ad goes on, it triggers people's emotions because it gives real-life stories of people in near-death experiences and makes the viewers want to watch on to see if they will be okay. Overall, Apple did a fantastic job in this watch ad because it reflected many aspects of the STEPPS model such as; social currency, triggers, emotion, and stories and captured the viewer's eyes right away.
Next is the Amazon commercial "Alexa loses her voice." The second I saw this, it caught my attention, and even now, three years later, I think about it. The commercial displays what their product "Amazon Alexa" features are. The commercial does this by getting a bunch of different celebrities to be "Alexa" for the day because the real Alexa's voice is gone. The ad does a perfect job of using comic relief and celebrities to show what their product does but still makes it fun and exciting. Overall, this ad is one of the best examples I have ever seen of "thumb-stopping" content and gathered lots of attention and awareness for the product.
