Reflection of this course
Over this semester, I have learned many skills and ideas about social media because of the class "Emerging and Social media." As an advertising and marketing major, I always knew the importance of social media. Still, until this class, I didn't know how to use specific social media skills to enhance a brand or company. I learned how to analyze a company's social media content and see their voice and how it relates to their brand and image. I also learned that not every social media tactic will work for every company. For example, paid promotions might work for some brands but not others. Therefore, it's vital to assess your brand and what you want others to perceive it. You can then use different social media tactics to enhance your social media presence and platforms with this information.
My favorite thing we did in class this semester was watching the documentary "Fake Famous." I thought this documentary was fascinating and gave me a better understanding of the realities of social media. I believe more documentaries or movies need to come out about social media and influencers because it is a relatively new area, and many people don't know the extremes or details. Documentaries like "Fake Famous" are fun and interesting to watch and show the harsh realities and truth behind social media and fame.
Overall, I am very glad I took this class, and I think it is a class anyone going into the communications world should take. Social media is one of the largest growing work areas and is now inevitable in today's world. Almost everything revolves around social media, and if you want to be successful in the advertising and marketing world, you need to know about the insides and details of social media. I now feel like I have a better grasp of how social media can shape a company's perception and how social media can tremendously help or hurt a brand. Because of this, it is essential to know how to be successful in the social media industry.
